Wednesday the U.S. Supreme Court declared that legally married same-sex couples are entitled to the same benefits and protections as heterosexual couples. The high court struck down a key provision of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, which defined marriage as between a man and woman.

We asked our Alabama News Network Facebook fans their thoughts on the issue.

Liberty Belle says, "Government has NO business in marriage, period. What relationship(s) a person of age decides to be in is their business - not mine, not yours and NOT the government's."

Kecia Ellis says, "Our country is being picked apart little by little and this is just one little thread into the great unraveling. God have mercy on the USA.."

Nicole Copeland says, "I feel like there is enough hatred, ignorance, and cruelty in this world and if someone can find a person to be with that loves them, is kind to them, and makes them happy who is anyone to say they should not be given the same rights as anyone else."

Plus, Gina Morgan says, "It is wrong, so I uphold it 100% ....... The Bible and God says it is wrong and I believe I will be there with God and the Bible on this one."
