Extra police will be on the street in Selma in an effort to make sure residents bring in the New Year safely.

Police Chief William Riley says officers will be out in full force as residents ring in the new year.

He says officers will be on the look out for drunk drivers and people shooting guns into the air.

"We want New Year's to come in with everyone enjoying themselves, yes, having a great time, yes, you know that's what we want. We want to start the New Year off on a good foot and that's with safety, everybody in the community being safe," said Riley.
