Educators, Others Say Keep Common Core in Alabama

About 300 teachers, school leaders and business people gathered on the Capitol steps to show their support for the Common Core standards for public schools.


The event Tuesday in Montgomery was in response to bills pending in the Legislature that would repeal the standards adopted by the State Board of Education in late 2010. Critics say the standards will lead to the nationalization of public education and take away local control of public schools.


State Superintendent of Education Tommy Bice said fears that Alabama will cede control or give personal student information to the federal government are unfounded.


Florence High School Principal Lynne Hice said the standards help Alabama students compete against students across the nation.


A bill to repeal Common Core is awaiting a vote in the Senate.

Teachers once again blindly following the AEA! Shouldn't they be in the classroom teaching! While parents are at work to pay taxes that pay their salaries! Stop the indoctrination! Repeal common core!
