Multi-Agency Law Enforcement Teams Conduct Drug Raids in Selma

By George McDonald

From the West Alabama Newsroom-- Drug raids conducted two days in a row in Selma -- lead to several arrests.

A major drug sweep began in Selma early Thursday morning following a raid and several arrests the night before.

Multi-agency law enforcement teams used drug-sniffing police dogs and a helicopter to help local authorities conduct drug raids at several locations around the city.

Selma Police Chief William Riley says the raids are part of a continued effort to clean-up the city and make it a safer place to live and visit.

"We are trying to make the city as safe as possible and we're going to continue to target these individuals that decide that they want to involve themselves in criminal activity," said Riley.

He said the locations that were raided were targeted in response to numerous complaints of drugs -- and other criminal activity at the location.
