Does Pike Road Need a Fulltime Fire Department?

By Ellis Eskew

The town of Pike Road is considered to be one of the fastest growing towns in the country.
With its own school on the way and more projected growth... is it time for a full time fire department instead of remaining mostly volunteer?

We talked to Mayor Gordon Stone about it. He says he is happy with the volunteer department. Three members are paid and nearly 50 are volunteer.  Stone says there is some more good news for residents.

"Almost every hood in Pike Road will be in the 6 ISO rating, which will put us competitive on fire insurance rating as anyone in this region," said Stone.

Mayor Stone says he doesn't see a need for a fulltime service but maybe just growing it as the town grows.
