By George McDonald

From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom--  Deer hunting season is underway in Alabama and sportsmen across the state are making their way to the great outdoors.

Deer hunting season is big business in West Alabama. The Blackbelt region is known nationwide for its excellent hunting and draws sportsmen from across the country into the area during hunting season each year.

Bobby Nance is the sporting goods manager at the Central Alabama Farmers Co-Op in Selma.

"They spend thousands of dollars every year on their equipment, guns, ammunition, slings and all of this is tax revenue for the state and for the county," said Nance.

Hunters can only use a bow and arrow during the first month of deer hunting season. The season runs until January 31st.
