Death Investigation Underway in Selma after Body of Missing Man Found

By George McDonald

From the West Alabama Newsroom--  A missing person investigation in Selma turns into a death investigation after police find the body of the missing man.

The body of 28 year old Fredrick Callens of Selma was found in a secluded wooded area near a railroad track and a creek.
Police says Callens was known to walk along the tracks as a shortcut across town.
His body was found on the banks of Valley Creek where the train tracks cross the creek.
Police say the missing person investigation -- is now a death investigation.

"We didn't think that we would find him deceased but had the cadaver dog to come, that's part of our procedure to have dogs in place just in case we do pick up a trail or something that would assist us in locating a missing person," said Selma Police Sgt. Curtis Muhannad.

Muhannad says the body has been sent to the Department of Forensics in Montgomery to determine the exact cause of death.
