From the West Alabama Newsroom-- Copper thieves hit two historic churches in downtown Selma and cause thousands of dollars worth of damage.
Church Street United Methodist Church was hit hard by copper thieves. Church officials say copper tubing was stolen from five air conditioning units at the church. They say the thieves did more than $60,000 dollars in damage.
"When I seen it I said people capable of anything right now," said church employee Michael Steele.
Copper thieves also damaged one of the air conditioning units at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
"It's pretty bad for people to come and wreck the air conditioner of a church," said church member Jill Mange.
The thefts are under investigation by Selma Police. If you have information call 874-2125.
