Commissioner: DAs have 2 inmate sex abuse cases

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's prison commissioner says prosecutors are considering two cases of alleged sexual assaults on state inmates by corrections officers.

 

And Commissioner Kim Thomas says

that his staff is separately investigating about 10 incidents of officers using force on inmate at the Elmore prison.

 

Thomas' comments follow a report issued by the Equal Justice Initiative, a Montgomery-based group.

 

Thomas says the prison system has given district attorneys the results of forensic tests in two cases where officers allegedly sexually abused prisoner. One case is from the Bibb prison at Brent and the other is from Donaldson prison near Bessemer.

 

Thomas says the department is investigating about 10 incidents involving the use of force at Elmore Correctional Facility.
