Thousands Celebrate "Christmas on the Coosa"

By CBS-8 Reporter

The Christmas on the Coosa festivities started Saturday afternoon in Downtown Wetumpka with something for the whole family to enjoy.

There was arts and crafts, food, entertainment, and even a puppet show for the kids.

The annual street parade featured CBS 8's very own Chief Meteorologist Ashley McDonald as the parade grand marshall.

"It's a community thing that we are excited about," said Wetumpka Mayor Jerry Willis.

"People get a chance to see people that they don't normally get to see. Also a lot of people come home for the holidays and that was the title of our christmas theme, Coming Home."

The Wetumpka City Pops band kept folks entertained after the parade, and the day ended with a parade of boats and fireworks over the Coosa River.
