Christmas Tornado Hits Demopolis

By George McDonald

From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom--  The National Weather Service says an F-1 tornado hit Demopolis Christmas night causing a wide range of damage to more than a dozen homes.

The tornado totally destroyed three mobile homes-- and caused minor to moderate damage to about ten houses. An F-1 tornado has maximum sustained winds of 100 miles per hour.

"It took off the back porch, the awning, and lost a storage house and the west side of the house is blown in. That's where I got the tarp at. It blew a lot of shingles off and trees down and everything like that in the yard," said tornado victim Henry Owens.

Marengo Co. EMA Director Kevin McKinney says no injuries associated with the storms have been reported.
