Customers turned out in droves to support Stand With Chick-fil-A day at local Montgomery stores.
the Ann Street Chick-fil-A as traffic backed up into the streets and people lined up to get in the store.
Brooks says supporters of same sex marriage are also upset because she says Chick-fil-A has donated millions of dollars to anti-Lesbian,Gay, Bisexual Transgender groups that the Southern Poverty Law Center has compared to hate groups.
A manager at Chick-fil-A says he thinks his store has served at least twice as many customers during this event as compared to an average Wednesday.
Many customers tell me they came out for "Stand with Ckick-fil-A Day" because it's all about free speech.
Ann Street Chick-fil-A is normally busy during the weekdays with traffic spilling into the side streets. But Wednesday those lines were even longer, stretching onto major thoroughfares as well. Some customers say they stood in line as much as 45 minutes. Rick McLain says it was well worth the wait.
"The moral fabric of this nation is being dissolved daily by attacks on the family on traditional values on the roles of husbands and fathers and mothers and wives and so I believe it's that each one of us stand up and say that the majority speaks for traditional marriage one man, one woman.," said McLain.
Most customers waiting in line say they support traditional marriage, but more importantly they're here to exercise they're right to free speech. Wayne Glass says halfof his division at Maxwell Airforce Base came out to support Chick-fil-A.
"What you do in your private life in your own bedroom is your own business but for some reason the left wants to make it a social issue and we're saying hey chick-fil-a thank you for standing up and got your right to free speech," said Glass.
Proponents of same sex marriage fired back at Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy's opinions through social media calling for a boycott of the restaurant chain. Lecia Brooks with the Southern Poverty Law Center says Cathy has a right to free speech and to express his opinion, but feels some of his comments crossed the line.
"When he talked about the country would be suffering the wrath of God because we supported marriage equality it really isn't an issue of religious conservatism versus other religious beliefs it really is an issue of equality," said Brooks.
Supporters of same sex marriage are planning their own protest for this Friday at Chick-fil-A restaurants nationwide.
That's after former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee called for people in favor of traditional marriage to show their support by eating at Chick-fil-A Wednesday.
Controversy has been brewing every since the chains President, Dan Cathy, made remarks in support of traditional marriage.

Chick-fil-A’s position on traditional marriage is not at issue. Most everyone supports traditional marriage. It is Chick-fil-A’s position that gay parents and their children should not have access to our civil marriage laws with accompanying benefits that is controversial and at issue.

I'm betting on the fact that many of those people wouldn't have been there except for the fact that the media reported incorrectly this was about Mr. Cathy's opinions, when it was not. This was definitely not a free speech issue, but one of his giving monetary support to organizations who wish to codify their beliefs into law in this country and in others, even supporting organizations financially which encourage the death penalty for gay individuals abroad. Top that off with the little lie about why there are no more Henson puppets at CFA, and you got yourself one true xian there. Not.

Saying you believe marriage is between one man and one woman is the equivalent of saying you don't believe that same-sex couples should have the right to get married. No matter how you wrap up the filthy garbage of bigotry, its stench is still there.
