Butler Co. Sheriff: More than $4,000 Stolen In Scrap Metal

By Catalina Trivino

Six people are arrested after sheriff's deputies say they stole thousands of dollars in scrap metal -- and they're still looking for two people...

The Butler County Sheriff's Office says Darius Young, Tenika Jefferson, James Simmons, Javone Simmons,  Myron Sellers and McKinsley Sellers are in custody after allegedly stealing about $4,0000 in raw iron and other scrap metals from a Butler County home.

Sheriff's deputies say they've all been charged with first degree Theft and they believe the group is part of a scrap metal theft ring.

Sheriff Kenny Harden says they were able to locate the group after being contacted by a Montgomery metal recylcer, after the group tried selling the metal to them.

"We were able to get a good bit of the material back. [They] still had a lot they sold at the scrap metal place [that] we will not be able to get back, but we actually got two trailer loads back," Said Harden.

Sheriff Harden says more arrests will be coming. The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and Montgomery Police Department also assisted in these arrests.
