Bentley Signs Congressional Redistricting Bill into Law

By Morgan Hightower

Governor Bentley signed into law HB484 that defines the Congressional redistricting lines.

The number of Alabama’s congressional districts is based upon the state’s proportion of the national population, counted every ten years. In May, Legislators held public hearings for Alabamians to offer input on how the Legislature should redraw district lines to reflect population changes from 2010 Census data.

“Because of the Legislature’s work in getting the redistricting bill passed, taxpayer money is saved by not having to call an expensive special session to tackle the issue of reapportionment,” said Governor Robert Bentley. “I appreciate the Legislature’s dedication to work to get reapportionment done in this Legislative session.”
