Beloved Actor Andy Griffith Dies at 86

Andy Griffith, known to millions as Sheriff Andy Taylor from Mayberry on the iconic TV classic  "The Andy Griffith Show", has died at the age of 86.

Dare County, N.C., Sheriff Doug Doughtie says Griffith died at his home on Roanoke Island, N.C., at approximately 7 a.m. ET today. A cause of death has not yet been determined.

Besides starring on "The Andy Griffith Show" from 1960-68, Griffith became known to a new generation of fans for his role on "Matlock" from 1986-1995.
