Police Arrest Three in "Critter Man" Case
The Montgomery Police Department has arrested three city residents in connection with Montgomery’s first homicide of 2011, the death of Ralph Henry McNeil, 58, also known as “The Critter Man.”
MPD officers found McNeil’s body near a burning trailer on Pilgrim Street shortly after 2:20 p.m. Jan. 18. The victim’s pickup truck was found burning nearby.
Charged with conspiracy to commit murder are Serenna English, 32; David Nash, 52; and Jeremy Riley, 20. All three were arrested early Tuesday following questioning at the police department, and each is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
Bond has been set at $250,000 each.
J. Christopher Murphy, director of the Montgomery Department of Public Safety, credited “good, old-fashioned investigative work” and singled out the MPD’s Criminal Investigative Division. “Our investigators have done a tremendous job of piecing together the facts in this case,” said Murphy. He also praised the assistance of Montgomery Sheriff D.T. Marshall, whose office provided confidential information essential to the investigation.
Murphy said MPD has developed evidence that indicates English, Nash and Riley conspired to kill McNeil. Because the investigation is continuing, information about motive and details of the case are not available for public release, he said.
Investigators are awaiting analysis of evidence, and they anticipate additional charges.
