Sheriff: Father Allegedly Fires Shots At Sons, Killing One

By Sarah Cantey

Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas said an argument between a husband and wife turned deadly when the father allegedly turned a 12-gauge shotgun on his two sons.

Sammy Dee Jackson, 44, is being held in Pike County Jail on $150,000 bond. He was charged with murder and attempted murder.

Sheriff Thomas said deputies responded to the mobile home on County Road 1143 just after 8 a.m. Saturday.

After an argument with his wife, Jackson allegedly shot and killed his 18-year-old son, Sammy Jackson. Deputies said he then shot his 16-year-old son in the leg, but the son jumped out of a window and ran for safety.

The injured son was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The mother and daughter were home at the time of the shooting but were not injured. This is the first murder of the year for the Pike County Sheriff's Office.

The District Attorney's office and Pike County Coroner Jerry Williams are also helping in the investigation.
