Authorities in Dallas Co. Search for Post Office Robbery Suspect

By George McDonald

From the West Alabama Newsroom--  The Dallas County Sheriff's Department needs your help to find the man they say robbed the Plantersville post office at gunpoint Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff Harris Huffman says 62-year-old Rubyn Smith is wanted for first degree robbery. The sheriff says a postal worker picked out Smith in a photo lineup.

Smith is accused of taking cash, blank money orders and a money order machine Wednesday afternoon.

Plantersville resident Ruby Lewis lives down the street from the post office.

"You think its a small town, you know, you're out here in the sticks and you think everything is okay," said Plantersville resident Ruby Lewis. "But the next thing you know, somebody is breaking into somebody's house or the post office and it makes you feel like you're not as safe as you thought you were."

Sheriff Huffman says Smith is believed to be driving a bluish-gray Toyota pick-up truck.
