Football season is almost here, and Auburn University is changing the game day experience for fans by adding free more than two thousand free parking and tailgating spots.

Athletic Director Jay Jacobs says basically, Auburn is filling almost every square inch of grass for fans, to show tailgating can coexist with academics.

During a special media tour, Jacobs explained each new space while traveling in the Tiger Transit buses.

Jacobs says Intramural Field will add 75 places to park and allow tents on the grassy areas. It will also serve as a new "tailgate drop off" location, so fans can unload their tailgate supplies closer to where they want to tailgate.

Another new tailgating space: the Facilities Area on Samford Drive. It will add 500 free grass spots, open tailgating by the pond and more restrooms to keep tailgaters comfortable.

There will also be a new Tiger Transit bus stop to take fans to the field.

Out of the two thousand new free spots, 900 of them will be across the street from the Facilities area at the Community Gardens.  RV's can set up shop at 4pm on Friday and there will be an added kids area and restrooms.

For those without RV's who still want to camp out, the university is clearing out Weagle Woods as a brand new tailgating space.

"[There will be] about 315 spots to park, so you can park across the street, come over here, set up your tailgate up right here in these tall pine trees," Jacob said.

But for fans who want hassle-free, reserved tailgating, Tailgate at the Park is adding 400 paid spots to Ag Heritage Park, available on a first come first serve basis. To reserve a space, click here.

Out of all the new spaces, the best tailgating real estate is opening up after being protected since the 1980's. The Leach Lawn at the intersection of Dunkin and Samford will be uprootig pipes and chains, adding about two dozen prime parking spaces.
