Annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee Kicks Off in Selma

By George McDonald

The 20th annual Jubilee Bridge Crossing is underway in Selma.

Mayor George Evans and the Selma City Council held a reception at the St. James Hotel Thursday night to welcome all the guests and visitors to the city.

Vice President and Mrs. Joe Biden will be in Selma to participate in the event Sunday.

Evans says the Edmund Pettus Bridge and several city streets will be closed Sunday and motorists will have to use an alternate route.

"There is security, FBI and Capitol Police already in our city mapping out all the strategies," said Evans.

The Bridge Crossing Jubilee features more than 40 separate events highlighted by the bridge crossing reenactment.
