Andalusia 7-Street Resurfacing Project Begins

Several roadways in the city of Andalusia are getting a make-over.

The project includes seven streets across the city. And while the process of redoing the streets may cause a headache for commuters, they hope the end result will be worth it.

City officials say it's important for drivers to be aware because streets like Moore Road, 4th Avenue and Lindsey Bridge Road receive heavy traffic.

Extensive work is being done on 4th Avenue, upgrading curbs, gutters and putting in new waterlines.

Andalusia Resident, Martha Kelley, thinks it's always a hassle crossing through road projects, but she says it'll be good for the city in the long-run.

"It's always a hang up whenever you're trying to get things finished because I'm trying to get my father-in-law moved from hospital into nursing home by two o'clock. So whenever you run into traffic like this and have to sit in line and wait it kind of makes a hassle, but we're going to hang in there. We're going to get through it."

Although traffic will be affected, Andalusia Mayor Earl Johnson says they'll be doing their best to keep traffic flowing.

"We resurface one side of the street... traffic continues on the other side and they swap it over. So it'll slow things down a little bit, but traffic will still be able to get through."

The Andalusia Manor nursing home is located on one of the project sites -- and Director of Operations, Sallee Sasser-Williams says they are looking forward to the changes.

"We're not dreading it at all. More road here has been in dire need of resurfacing for almost 20 years and this is going to help not only our ambulance services getting to our nursing home and assisted living, but also our sponsors and residents coming in to tour the facility."

City officials say their goal is to finish the project within the next two weeks. The total cost of the project will be about $500 thousand dollars.

Below is a list of streets that are included in the project:

-Resurfacing Moore Rd. from South Three Notch to the truck route.

-Resurfacing and milling 4th Ave. from East Three Notch to Henderson St.

-Resurfacing Lindsey Bridge Rd. to Easely Dr.

-Resurfacing Holloway Dr. from Dunson St. to Church St.

-Resurfacing Academy Dr. from the railroad truck crossing to Midway Dr.

-Resurfacing Lakeview Dr. from Sanford Rd. to Camellia Ave.
