Gov. Robert Bentley to Sign Abortion Law Tuesday

By Alabama News Network

Gov. Governor Robert Bentley is to sign a bill mandating stricter standards for abortion clinics, similar to those recently adopted in Mississippi.

Bentley will be joined at Tuesday's signing by Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey and House Speaker Mike Hubbard.

The signing is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. in the Old House Chamber at the State Capitol.

Opponents of the new abortion law have said it aims to put abortion clinics out of business and will be challenged in court like Mississippi's law.

Bentley has said the bill will make it safer for women to have abortions, even though he's personally opposed to abortion.
