Patriotic floats and flags filled the streets of cities across Alabama for the Fourth of July.
According to an online news site, Business2Community, Alabama is ranked 9th in the nation when it comes to patriotism.
But the criteria isn't just about the red, white and blue.

It happened to rate the states on their:

-National Historic Landmarks per Capita
-Veterans per Capita
-Money Spent to Fund Veterans

We asked some of you what you think.

Debbi Watson says,  "Considering the civil rights movement, the state capitol, capitol of the Confederacy and stuff like that, so I think we're good at being 9th."

But people we talked to agree there is one main thing that we could improve on.

"I think we can do better honoring our veterans, putting them on the top of the list and recognizing our military," said Debbi.

"We need to really look at having more monuments to our veterans. We need to honor them and especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice," said Eddie Watson.

John Menora  is a U.S. Veteran and says, "All the cities can do more about getting the veterans jobs and reinstating them or reincorporating them into the civilian society."

But overall, they are happy with their home state and its patriotism.

"I'm just really proud of Alabama. It's a wonderful state and a blessing to be from here," said Eddie.
