Alabama Legislature Looking to Revamp Medicaid
The Alabama legislature is looking at a way to revamp medicaid and it could mean making it a "for-profit" model.
The bill would build a framework that the State Medicaid Agency would operate within to deliver comprehensive health care to Medicaid consumers.
The plan calls for up to eight regions within the state to be independently managed.
Out of state for-profit companies have already expressed interest in managing those regions.
Legislators will begin work in two weeks on the new medicaid bill.
Committee meetings and public hearings will be held to discuss it.
If the legislation passes, it would not go into effect until 2017.
