MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The state education budget and teacher pay raise approved by the Alabama House is set for its first review in the Senate.

The Senate Finance and Taxation-Education Committee is scheduled to consider the $5.7 billion budget and the 2 percent pay raise Wednesday. The House's version of the budget spends less than Gov. Robert Bentley recommended, and the pay raise is smaller than the 2.5 percent the governor proposed.

Approval by the Senate committee will send the budget and the pay raise to the Senate with seven meeting days left in the legislative session.
