From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom--  Four students accused of attacking a teacher last week at Southside High School in Selma -- will be spending the holidays in the juvenile detention center.

District Attorney Michael Jackson says the juveniles will be detained up until their January 4th disposition hearing.

That means they'll spend Christmas-- and ring in the New Year-- in custody.

"We felt like given the serious nature of this that students just can't go around beating up teachers and they should remain detained," said Jackson.

He said the students attacked the teacher in the cafeteria during lunch. The teacher and all four suspected attackers are female.
