This Saturday will be the first opportunity for students and fans to come see the ASU hornets play in their new stadium in a regular season game.

The $62 million facility was finished in time for last year's annual Turkey Day Classic on Thanksgiving Day.

The stands hold about 26,000 fans. The university says the stadium is more than ready to see a sell out crowd. But ASU is looking beyond just the game of football.

"But this is more than just about Alabama State. This is about the community of Montgomery that's always been there for Alabama State and Alabama State has always been there for the community. It's just going to be a family atmosphere and we want everyone to come out and celebrate family and Alabama State," said Interim Athletic Director Melvin Hines.

Freshmen students Jaylin Strong and Mark Bell are looking forward to seeing their first season in the new stadium.

"It's nice. This is my first time seeing it. I want to go in and run on it," said Strong.

"I love it. It's shocking. I've been to a lot of other stadiums too. I've been to Auburn, Alabama. Only thing different is it's just black and gold," said Bell.

The season opener will be the first opportunity for students to come together in the brand new student section.

"One of the biggest changes we made this year is our band and our student section. We're going to christen our student section the Hornet's Nest, and it's going to be on the north side of stadium, which is going to be something new for ASU, for the fans, and the band is going to be on that side as well," said Hines.

And all that work is not going unnoticed.

"They're doing a lot for us and we appreciate it," said Bell.

You can catch ASU taking on Jacksonville State at 5 o'clock this Saturday for their first ever home opener in the new stadium.
