An Alabama State University Board of Trustee member is stepping down.

In a letter that Lawrence Lemak gave to the governor, he says he is resigning because of his age.

Lemak is turning 70 this summer, which is the required age of retirement for all ASU Board Members.

Lemak, who a Birmingham surgeon, has been absent from board meetings since November.

He was appointed to the board by then-Governor Bob Riley.

He is the second ASU Board of Trustee member to resign this year.
