Fatal House Fire In West Montgomery Starts in Kitchen

By Ashley Thompson

A house fire has killed a woman and destroyed a home.

UPDATE: The Montgomery Fire Department tells CBS 8 the fire on Drake Street ignited from an electrical fire in the kitchen.

Firefighters arrived on Drake Street at 3 friday afternoon. Units worked for hours to find what caused the fire.

Neighbor Patricia Jones was just down the street when she saw the smoke and flames. She heard cries for help coming from inside the burning house.

"She was just saying 'help me, help me' but when she kicked the door down... we couldn't get in there," she says.

Lieutenant Kenneth Jones says at this time, the fire investigation is still ongoing. The fire department has not yet released the name of the victim.

"I can't confirm other than it was a female. Information will be available at a later time. The information that I have at this time is that the patient was in the room of the origin where the fire started," Jones told CBS 8 News.

A firefighter spokesperson told us this is the first fire-related fatality of the year.

CBS 8 News will bring you the latest as it becomes available.
