A Private Company Takes Over Garbage Pick Up in Selma

By George McDonald

From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom-- The city of Selma will no longer be responsible for picking up garbage in the city after the month of January.

The city is turning over the job of garbage collection to a private company. Advanced Disposal will officially take over the garbage pick-up operation February 1st and start running routes on Monday.

City officials held a series of meeting this month to help residents set up an account with the company.

"Well, my husband went on the internet and did it real early on, there was nothing to it. I don't know why people haven't signed up I mean you got to have garbage pick up, the city would be so nasty if you didn't have garbage pick up," said Selma resident Sylvia Smith.

You can get more information about how to sign up online at www.advanceddisposal.com.
