Sen. Hinton Mitchem Announces Retirement

MONTGOMERY (WNCF)- State Sen. Hinton Mitchem announced his future plans Monday.

Mitchem, a veteran of more than 30 years in the Legislature, announced he will not seek re-election this year. The 71-year-old senator wants to slow down and spend more time with his family.

Mitchem served in the House of Representatives and the Senate from 1974-2009. He was nominated the top ranking senator in January 2007 and held that position until February 2009.
