By WNCF Staff

SELMA (WNCF) – The nation remembered ‘Bloody Sunday’ yesterday, 45 years after the historic civil rights march.

Dignitaries participating in the memorial March in Selma included Winnie Mandela, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer.

The march known as Bloody Sunday took place on March 7, 1965. 600 civil rights marchers were attacked by police with billy clubs and tear gas.

It is considered one of the pivotal moments in the civil rights movement.
