Fishing an Official High School Sport?

By James Koontz

FLORENCE (WNCF) - When you think about high school sports in the state of Alabama football, basketball, and baseball come to mind pretty quick. Soccer is gaining popularity, and area golf teams have made their mark, but you could suffice it to say that fishing has
never been a topic of high school sports discussion.

That could soon change after Decatur hosts the Alabama High School Bass Fishing Club Tournament Series on March 6.

Young anglers will take to the pond as twenty high schools are expected to participate in the tournament in March.

Fishing enthusiast hope the tournament will encourage the Alabama High School Athletic Association to add fishing as an official team sport.
