Alabama Unemployment Hits 11%

By WNCF Staff

In our big story tonight… Alabama’s unemployment rate surged to 11% in December – an increase of a half percent from the month before.

According to the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations, the state lost 9,300 jobs in December.

The department says that’s a sign that the recession is still hitting Alabama.

The jobless rate in the River Region, however, has remained below the state rate at just under 10%.
