Feature: Local Servicemen Depart for Iraq

Mixed emotions today at Dannelly Field as 30 members of the 187th Fighters Wing deployed this morning.

The members of the Alabama Air National Guard are headed to an undisclosed location near Balad, Iraq to provide aerial support in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

If families can solace in any aspect of this departure, it's a comfort in knowing that these troops are experienced... many on their 3rd and 4th tours.

Commanding officers promised the families support if they needed anything while their loved one is away on duty, and we all owe them a debt of gratitude.
