Jury selection has entered its second day in Montgomery for a trial of an ex-prison supervisor accused of fatally beating an inmate and trying to cover it up.

Jury selection started Wednesday for the federal court trial of former Lt. Michael Smith, and it continued Thursday.

Smith is accused in the death of inmate Rocrast Mack. He was serving a 20-year sentence on a drug conviction at Ventress Correctional Facility in Clayton when he died in August 2010. Two former prison employees have already pleaded guilty in the case.

U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson has set aside three weeks for Smith's trial.
