Deputies Search for Suspect in Pike Road Murder

By Ashley Thompson

For people who live in the Montgomery County town of Pike Road, the unthinkable happened this morning as a homicide happened in their community.

It was around 8 this morning when Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputies arrived at the 1000 block of Stableway in the Bridlebrook subdivision to investigate a murder. People who live here say they are shocked by this news and can't believe something like this would happen in their area.

"It's been home for me," says Pike Road resident Ron Smith. "It's been a nice area. I'm very comfortable out here living in Freeport, which is right next to Bridlebrook."

The Bridlebrook subdivision is where deputies tell us 19-year-old James McCollum was found dead in his home.

We're told he did not live there by himself, but he was he only one at the residence at the time.

Authorities say they are looking for a suspect -- 24-year-old Jason Curtis Ferguson.

They say Ferguson left the crime scene in a car, which was later found in some trees in the Woodland Creek subdivision just across Vaughn Road from Bridlebrook. Ferguson then took off by foot.

People who live in Bridlebrook say things like this never happen in their area.

"I've been here 18 years," says Jim Bell. "My children...when I had this house built in 94. I have two daughters still at home. We've always been safe."

Pike Road Mayor Gordon Stone sent CBS 8 News a statement that reads in part, 'The town of Pike Road wishes to express their deepest sympathy to the family of the victim.'

If you have any information regarding Ferguson's whereabouts call the Montgomery Co. Sheriff's Office at (334) 832-1200. You can remain anonymous.
