One Person Dead After Crash On Western Boulevard

By Sarah Cantey

A wreck during rush hour Wednesday shut down a major roadway and left one person dead.

It happened at the intersection of Old Selma Road and Western Boulevard around 5 p.m. Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Murphy says they had been working a counterfeiting investigation with Wetumpka Police and U.S Secret Service. They spotted the alleged suspects in a stolen car.
When officers pulled them over, the car fled and crashed into an 18-wheeler. The passenger in the suspect car was killed and the driver was transported with life threatening injuries.
Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Murphy said, "If the driver does make it, he's obviously going to be facing some serious federal charges and also some felony state charges."
Little details on the counterfeit investigation are being released. The Alabama Department of Public Safety is handling the crash investigation. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
