Troy University Students Help With Free Tax Site
It's tax season. For many that means worrying about forms and how much money you are going to get back or owe.
The free tax site at the Pike County Extension Office is up and running for the third straight year. They mainly serve people with income of $52,000 and under.
For the first time, Troy University accounting students are helping out while getting college credit. The students along with a tax professional help with tax returns through tax season.
Last year this site alone saved the community $8,600 in tax prep fees.So far they have done 80 returns in just a few weeks.
Curtis Potts, a Troy resident said, "You can get your taxes done and not have to pay anything. That's 40 dollars I can save towards something else, maybe a light bill or whatever so it's a positive thing."
The sites are sponsored by the Alabama Asset Building Coalition and the IRS.
For more information on the forms call (334) 566-0985.
