In April of 2013, Opp City officials said the city is getting a new pool. They expected construction to only take six months, but the mayor says due to delays, there will not be any splashing this Summer.

Although some construction is underway, Mayor John Bartholomew says planning took longer than expected and the pool will not be ready in time for Summer. A timeline is not yet set for when it will be complete.

He says weather and sewage issues are to blame for the delays, "We are doing all the underground maintenance of it. It's putting a brand new sewer in, brand new sewer drains, man holes, and water that was well needed. A lot of it has collapsed throughout the year and through the neighborhood, and we went ahead and spent the money and corrected the problem before we put the pool in."

The estimated project cost is also up. Originally estimated to cost $200,000, the mayor says the final plans are estimated between $500,000 and $600,000 for the pool and surrounding park.

He says hopes to have the sewage and plumbing issues fixed within the next few months.
