New WalMart Opens in Tallassee

It's out with the old and in with the new in one Central Alabama town.

On Wednesday, store mangers and city officials cut the ribbon on the city's newest WalMart. The new facility is about 70,000 square feet. That's more than double the size of the old building on Gilmer Avenue. About 150 people work at the new super center, and eighty of those are newly created positions.

City leaders hope the new jobs and extra revenue will have a positive impact on the city. "They'll be selling more items because the store's going to be bigger and consequently, I think it'll increase our sales tax by a hefty amount. I think it's going to be a real key for us," said Mayor Bobby Payne

The store will be open seven days a week from 6 A.M. to 11 P.M.
