By Alabama News Network

Tragedy strikes NASCAR, as well-known driver Tony Stewart is involved in a crash that killed another driver.

The crash happened at Canandaigua Motorsports Park Saturday night during a sprint car race on a dirt track in upstate New York. Kevin Ward was killed when video evidence shows he got out of his car mid-race and approached Stewart's car, after apparently being spun out on the track. He was then struck by Stewart's car, sending Ward sliding down the track.

Ward was declared dead at a hospital early Sunday morning, according to local authorities.

According to Ontario County Officials, Stewart has been cooperative during the investigation. He did not race Sunday night.

It remains unclear if Stewart will face any criminal charges.
