Event Connects Homeless With Resources

Hundreds of Montgomery's homeless population came together at an event aimed to help them get back on their feet.

River Region Connects is an annual event connecting the homeless with everything from legal advice to a haircut.
This is the fifth year of the event organizer by the Mid-Alabama Coalition for the homeless. The coalition estimates there are 900 men, women and children on the streets of in shelters in Montgomery.
Some of the services provided at the Multiplex at the Cramton Bowl were legal services, free state ids, medical testing, and housing services.
Executive Director Mid-Alabama Coalition for the Homeless Molly Stone said, "These are people who just need something to help them break the cycle of homelessness. They've gotten into homelessness for all different reasons and we are trying to provide a service that can help them get a step up and work their way out of that."
This event is only held once a year, but the Mid-Alabama Coalition for the Homeless has an outreach worker out on the streets everyday working to connect the homeless with programs for their needs.
