From the West Alabama Newsroom--  The city of Selma is getting ready for its biggest tourist event of the year -- and the annual economic boost it provides to the area.

The annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee gets underway Thursday. The event draws thousands of people to Selma each year and packs a huge economic punch.

Hotels around town are already booked solid and restaurants are preparing for big crowds. William Smith owns American Wings & Seafood restaurant.

"Last year we opened and we did pretty well that year and we're looking forward to do the same this year," said Smith.

The Jubilee runs from March 6th through the 10th. The event commemorates Bloody Sunday -- the Selma to Montgomery March -- and the passage of the Voting Rights Act.
