Coffee - Heart Connection?

..but over the years, studies have gone back and forth on whether that "cup of Joe" was bad for us or not.

Now, news that a moderate amount of coffee may actually lower your risk of heart failure.

The news comes out of research funded in part by the National Institutes of Health, and just published in the journal Circulation.

Researchers reviewed five large studies on the link between coffee consumption and heart failure risk.

Combined they included records of more than 140-thousand patients.

When the numbers were crunched, moderate coffee consumption, approximately four cups per day, protected against heart failure by as much as 11 percent!

On the other hand, more than five cups of coffee offered no heart healthy benefit, and may even be dangerous.

Researchers aren't exactly sure why a moderate amount of coffee offers protection against heart failure, but they say evidence suggests that java lovers may develop a tolerance to caffeine, decreasing their risk of high blood pressure.

Previous studies have also found that coffee lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes. Another big factor for heart failure.

Bottom line, enjoying a morning brew or two might do a lot more than just wake you up!
