Is there a connection between cataracts...and your cholesterol medicine?

New research suggests there may be.

A study, appearing in the journal Optometry and Vision Science , analyzed nearly 64-hundred patients who visited an optometry clinic in Canada.

The team evaluated both diabetes and statin treatment as possible risk factors for age-related cataracts.

Statin use was common among the group...with 56-percent of patients with Type 2 diabetes taking statin drugs and another 16-percent without diabetes taking the cholesterol lowering medication.

Both diabetes and statin use were significantly associated with an increased rate of age-related cataracts.
