Device Removes Fat Over Your Lunch Break

By Lisa Blackwell

A new cosmetic procedure which is a first in the River Region could have some patients taking a little longer lunch.

A belly fat busting technique gets you right back on your feet.
If you’ve ever wanted to get rid of that little pudge in your tummy or those love handles without going under the knife then this might be the procedure for you.

Coolsculpting takes around one hour and when you’re done you can go back to work or even hit the gym.

If you’re a little shy about baring your midsection at the beach…you won’t be at the doctor’s office. Coolsculpting is a non-invasive procedure that removes fat without an incision, anesthesia or any pain. Doctors mark the area that needs treating, then all you do is lie down and relax. A device draws your bulge up between two cooling panels.

Douglas Robertson, M.D., Plastic Surgery Associates of Montgomery, says “That process results in crystalization of the fat cells of the fat within the fat cells which causes the fat cells to die but it does not cause any injury to the surrounding tissues the skin the nerves the blood vessels, things like that.”

You will feel a little tightness and a little pressure but no pain. You can multi-task during this procedure; watch TV or surf the web while the machine goes to work on your fat.

“Over a several month time all those fat cells will begin to dissolve and the fat within them is metabolized by the body’s lymphatic system and what patients can experience is about a 20 to 25 percent reduction in the thickness of the fat in the area treated,” said Robertson.

Doctors say after the treatment you may experience a little bruising that diminishes within days, but you can go back to doing anything.

Doctor’s say you’ll notice the most dramatic results at about two months; plenty of time to head back to the beach.

Doctors say you need to be evaluated for this procedure and it’s only for patients who are about twenty pounds overweight.

Right now it’s used on the trunk of the body and not on the buttocks or thighs.

Plastic Surgery Associates of Montgomery is the only place offering this procedure in Central Alabama.

Coolsculpting costs around 600 to 1200 dollars per treatment.
