Keep Kids Active This Winter

For many moms, the holiday hustle and bustle means less time at the gym and possibly putting on extra weight. For kids, the additional winter breaks from school and chilly temperatures bring fewer opportunities to be active too. These simple indoor and cold weather activities will get your whole family moving and keep everyone fit until spring.

INDOOR GAMES

A good old-fashioned game of hide and seek -- especially if you can keep everyone running up and down the stairs -- is a great way to sneak in a little cardio. A vigorous game of Twister will get your heart pumping. Amp it up and add music with Twister Dance or Twister Rave Hoopz.

YARD WORK

This is fabulous exercise for the whole family and the bonus is a picture-perfect yard! Just don't call it work. Get the kids busy raking leaves into a huge pile to jump and play in before you bag them up. Shovel snow from walkways to build a snowman or a snow cave.

DANCE PARTY

Clear the furniture out of the way, put on some high-energy tunes and throw a living room dance party. Get silly and try out crazy new moves.

HOUSEWORK

Moms know sweeping, mopping and dusting can be a real workout. If you're having guests, make the kids feel like they're hosts too. Get them busy helping out. It's party prep not chores!

YOGA

Have your kids join you for some downward dog. This
is a fantastic way to stay fit and de-stress -- you just need a mat and a yoga
DVD. There are also tons of online yoga options and most cable providers'
On-Demand sections offer free workouts.
